“Giant” is the first full-length album by “Ron Walker & The Blue Quarter”.
The universe of “Giant” was designed by Ron on the summer of 2012. Throughout this period, melodies, chords and rhythms from an old fender 74 telecaster electric-guitar met words - and that’s how songs began to exist. The first spontaneous ideas were later gathered and developed in the company of the other main musician of the project, Ron’s brother and drummer.
“Giant” was recorded in the late December of 2012 over a period of two weeks. “Ron Walker & the Blue Quarter” gathers some close friends and musicians, one of those became the voice beneath the songs. The project also brought other musicians for certain songs: «a good friend of mine plays alto and tenor sax on “Division of Joy and Mind Upon a Cloud” and he introduced me to another friend that plays violin and joins the project to play on the songs “The Giant, Division of joy" and "The Monk”». This quintet of musicians became the core of “Ron Walker & The Blue Quarter”. Other artists and friends from photography, painting, acting and video joined the project to fulfill the whole concept of the album.
The title track “The Giant” is the first tune of the album. «(…) I was searching for some sort of main theme that talks about the philosophy of the work but in overall the song it’s a good boost of energy and light enough to start out, as this album intends to be all about light - songs must have it, we must have it (…) at the same time I had a thought about Jack and the Beanstalk legend while writing the song (…)»
“Ron Walker & The Blue Quarter - Giant” talks about how deep, troubled and unquiet but also beautiful and blissful existence could be, our connection to the world itself and the way we are also connected to other people are the two main subjects.
